Well, it’s Katia. Katiawhoforgotshehadasubstackanddidntwritetoyousincemarch. That’s who’s knocking.
I listened to a talk on Substack by Ali Dunworth recently and she mentioned that if you’re in a slump, you must just get started and be consistent rather than perfect. It is too much pressure for me to wait until I have the “perfect post”, there is no perfect post, bodie are glass cases of emotions and cheese is king. Long live the king.
I wanted to share with you a couple of bits of food that have been leaving rent free in my head. As you know, I have strongly held opinions and they are mostly always right.
I went to Paris for a week at the start of May, I hadn’t gone back in a couple of years and I got there in the midst of a particularly pleasurable weather spell. Warm, dry and bright days made for an enjoyable time and all the food tasted for it. There was barbecues, cheese, salads, good fruits, a few cakes and of course proper viennoiseries. I know croissants have come a long way in Ireland but I promise you, they’re mostly not there yet. France still wins at that particular game and by a long long shot.
Brace yourselves, I’m going in.

Meanwhile in Ireland….
With regards to restaurant food and before I share a couple of dishes that are stuck in my head, I want to remind you (for transparency you see), that I run a small concierge business and that whilst I do not get paid commission for sending people to these gorgeous establishments, I do get a fee from customers using my services, and as such there is some kind worky/ financial connection to the two restaurants I mention below. For full disclosure, dishes below were all paid for.
How’s that for an awkward way to disclose a commercial relation, wha?!

The neighbourhood menu in Volpe Nera is on Wednesday and Thursday from 17.00 to 18.45 and for €38.00 per person you will eat some of the most exciting food cooked in Dublin at the moment.
Ok, I’ve written enough for tonight. Off to face plant some toast.
Bye for now.
